Digital Natives Academy Charitable Trust, NZ’s first facility of its kind, was founded in 2014. DNA’s vision is to inspire the next generation of digital leaders. This is done by providing a variety of free programmes focused on coding, content creation and esports. DNA’s goal is to nurture the potential of our young leaders towards careers in the digital tech and esports industries. DNA provides access to a 280sqm professional training facility for these emerging leaders. From this innovative space, Nativez Esports Ltd emerged as an agile leader in grassroots esports. Lead by a group of passionate and dedicated young entrepreneurs committed to an organisation whose mission is to build the NZ esports ecosystem from the ground up and represent NZ professionally at all levels of eports. Nativez Esports is typical of other competitive gaming teams in that they livestream on Twitch and compete locally, nationally and internationally. Nativez is different however, in that we work with the tech and education sectors. Nativez works actively in schools, engaging with students, teachers, parents, principals and decision makers about the value of esports and how it can be used to help equip young people with skills for life by enhancing reslilence, leadership, communication and decision making skills. Nativez will be contracted to run NZ’s first gamer well-being programme for highschool school students, a collab between Riot Games and Digital Natives Academy which has been funded by the Spark Foundation with a goal to help the community better understand the impact gaming has on young people’s wellbeing and mental health.
