Leilani and granddaughter Anastasia Rickard are passionate fashionistas based in Rotorua, New Zealand. Inspired by New Zealand’s culture, nature and science, they have created a unique fashion label together. Anastasia, whilst studying science and working at Scion, discovered the beauty of microscopic imagery of native flora and fauna. This imagery is used as the inspiration of Natura Aura. Natura Aura specializes in high street fashion and accessories comprised of high quality garments, that have an emotional connection to nature. ‘Natura’ being the Latin term for Nature (chosen by Anastasia for her science and art design background) and ‘Aura’ (chosen by Leilani for her weaving and artistic background), the name ‘Natura Aura’ reflects the fusion of science, nature and fashion while being inspired by their cultural heritage. Natura Aura has a Arts Preservation Department that specializes in creating single crafted garments and produces large piu piu, maro and kakahu runs, for performing groups, schools and art clients. All of our weaving pieces aim to perpetuate, promote and preserve Māori culture, through traditional and contemporary Māori art.
