Since its commissioning in December 1942, Naval Station Mayport has grown to become the third largest Fleet Concentration Area (FCA) in the United States. Its operational composition is unique, with a busy harbor capable of accommodating up to 34 ships and an 8,000-foot runway capable of handling any aircraft in the Department of War inventory. With more than 3,400 acres, the base is home to Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command and U.S. Fourth Fleet; Commander, Naval Surface Squadron Fourteen; Destroyer Squadron Four Zero; Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Squadron Two; Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing, U.S. Atlantic Fleet; and more than 10,000 Sailors and civilian DoD employees. Mayport is also home to Unmanned Patrol Squadron (VUP) 19, which operates the Navy’s first MQ-4C Triton Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). Currently, NAVSTA Mayport is home to over 20 warships, 1 Coast Guard cutter, 3 helicopter squadrons and more than 80 tenant commands.
