About NB Social Pediatrics
New Brunswick Social Pediatrics (NBSP) was developed with the primary purpose of improving the quality of life, health, rights, and long-term outcomes of children and their families in the province of New Brunswick. It is well-documented that children facing social disparities, trauma and toxic stress will experience a disproportionate number of negative physical and mental health outcomes across their lifespan. At NBSP, we focus on the strengths, needs, and rights of the children and families that come to our programs and clinic. We take a community social pediatrics, trauma informed, and child rights approach to everything we do. We offer various programs and services in our community, such as: -Parenting Child Assistance Program (PCAP): A 3-year program of support and case management for women that have experienced addiction during pregnancy. -Strengthening Families: An internationally recognized program that provides family skills training to parents and children who are at risk for substance-use. -Pediatrics on Princess (POP) Centre: An interdisciplinary “kitchen table” approach to pediatric care, by bringing the child, their family, and professionals together to help mitigate the social determinants of health on the child and eliminate any other barriers to care. -Communities Acting on Research Evidence (CARE) Database: A database that aims to provide non-profit agencies with standardized and secure cloud-based datasets to collect and store client data. NBSP recognizes that we carry out our work, play, and living on the unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Wolastoqiyik, Mi’kmaq and Peskotomuhkati peoples. We are committed to learning and unlearning, and working in solidarity with Indigenous peoples.
