About Nebraska Water Environment Association

The Nebraska Water Environment Association (NWEA) is a state-level member association of the Water Environment Federation (WEF). The NWEA currently has over 500 members, 19 standing committees, 4 annual conferences, 5 annual board meetings, 7 recognition awards, a semi-annual newsletter named Effluent Line, a web page and a social media presence, a Scholarship Endowment Fund, a Membership Directory, an Operator Training Program, and an annual golf outing. NWEA is also a contributor to the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF), a foundation within WEF dedicated to improving and finding new technology for wastewater treatment and the protection of the world’s water environment. NWEA members are categorized into one of two groups. The first group includes WEF membership with membership also for the NWEA Membership Association in the areas listed below. • Professional (includes professional, professional operator, and young professionals) • Corporate/Executive (includes companies and executive packages) • Academics/Students (includes instructors/professors and students) • Other (exhibitor and utility partnership program) • Life (members with 35+ years membership and are 65+ years old) WEF/NWEA members are also included in the Nebraska Wastewater Operators Division (NWOD). There are two WEF Student Chapters affiliated with NWEA. The Student Chapters include the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) and University of Nebraska Lincoln (UNL). The second group is the Nebraska Wastewater Operators Division (NWOD). These members are granted all of the privileges included in NWEA, but are not WEF members. Registration for NWOD is managed by NWEA separate from WEF.
