About Nes Ammim Israël

Nes Ammim is a village in the Western Galilee, Israel, dedicated to dialogue, learning and hospitality. Established in 1963 by Dutch, German and Swiss pioneers, it gained recognition in the fields of floristry, carpentry and hospitality. Nowadays, it still runs a guesthouse in botanical setting with a kosher restaurant, has pulled off real estate activities in recent years to welcome new inhabitants and has initiated solar energy plans for the near future. Nes Ammim is a non-profit organization. In its midst lives an international, ecumenical Christian community, founded and supported by European Christians and churches. The Israeli staff and international volunteers are living, working and learning in solidarity with the wide spectrum of people in the country: Jews, Arabs and others. Nes Ammim (meaning ‘sign to the nations’) strives to be a community of people who live and work together, mainly on a voluntary basis - alongside other Israeli inhabitants and employees (Jews and Arabs) of the village. The special aim of Nes Ammim is: being a living community that facilitates learning experiences and offer cultural, social, educational and religious activities. The solidarity of the founders, supporters and members of Nes Ammim is motivated by the lessons of the past (of the Shoah in Europe) in trying to turn a new page in the relations between Jews and Christians. This is motivated by the challenges of the present, in learning about the reality, dreams and traumas of the land and all its inhabitants. All aspects of life are present in the community: living, working and learning. All people at Nes Ammim and its visitors get opportunities to learn about Israel - in particular the Galilee -, about Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and about the cultural, social, religious and political life in the country.
