The world wasn’t built for everyone—it was designed around a narrow way of thinking. At NeuroTakiwa, we challenge that. We see the beauty, strength, and wisdom in minds that navigate the world differently. Our name, NeuroTakiwa, is inspired by Māori wisdom. It reclaims the narrative around disability by emphasizing the treasure found in neurodivergent perspectives. In Māori culture, autism is understood through the concept of Takiwatanga—“in their own time and space.” This lens honors each person’s unique experience of the world, free from judgment or the pressure to conform. Building on this, Kura Urupare—from Kura (treasure, knowledge) and Urupare (response)—reflects our approach: a respectful, informed response to the value diverse minds bring. This is our purpose: to help shape a world where difference is not just accepted, but embraced.
