About New Economy for Working Houston
New Economy for Working Houston (NEW Houston) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that brings together the power of grassroots organizing and public policy innovation to win a just economy for Gulf Coast working families. We seek to build an inclusive regional economy where workers and neighborhoods thrive, and where people of color, immigrants, women, and low-income residents have an equal voice and share equally in regional prosperity. As the fourth-largest, most diverse, and second-fastest growing metro in the country, Houston is driving the progressive economic, cultural, and political change sweeping the state. Despite substantial obstacles, coalitions of labor unions, community organizations, and allied policy-makers have passed innovative, popular policies that tackle inequality and create greater opportunity for all. NEW Houston’s mission is to deepen public support for progressive local policy, defend the gains we have made locally, and amass the power to win more.
