The New Energy Challenge (NEC) is a competition for startups and scaleups, jointly organized by Rockstart, Shell, Unknown Group, and YES!Delft. This year marks the tenth edition of the competition, which is designed for cutting-edge innovators to develop emerging technologies that promote sustainability and shape the future of the energy sector at scale. The world will need an increasing amount of energy in the coming decade to ensure a decent standard of living for a growing global population. Tomorrow’s energy system needs breakthrough ideas and new technologies. Celebrating its tenth edition, NEC’s mission to support young, innovative companies is more important than ever. These companies can help drive economic growth by developing businesses based on affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy. Startups and scaleups have, and will continue to have, a vital role in developing technologies for the energy system of the future. Since its inception, dozens of innovative entrepreneurs have received expert coaching and guidance and had the opportunity to bring their ideas to the next level. Winners such as Asperitas in 2018 have successfully attracted large-scale investment, begun building long-term partnerships, and brought us a step closer to making the energy transition a reality.
