About Newborn Hope
The first benefit luncheons (“November Noel”) held in Colorado Springs and Denver were launched by Zoya Dickins Miller in 1973 in memory of a premature baby with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). The monies raised were used for RDS research. Fourteen years later, Newborn Hope was incorporated as a nonprofit organization, with the change in name reflecting the broader mission. Since 1973, Newborn Hope’s mission has remained the same- to provide care and support to families impacted by prematurity across Colorado. Our mission is carried out through a continuum of programs that include: prenatal education to support safe pregnancy and identify risks and signs of preterm labor, equipment to organizations statewide whose missions align to better the outcomes for preterm infants, a statewide education conference for medical professionals centering on trending issues in the NICUs, and post-NICU support to Colorado families as they transition home from a NICU hospitalization. In 2019, in collaboration with healthcare partners, Newborn Hope identified a critical gap in resources for Colorado families transitioning home from the NICU. Rising to meet this need, Newborn Hope developed the Preemie Family Assistance Fund (PFAF). PFAF provides equity of care by working to ensure all Colorado families have the resources and network of support needed to successfully transition from the NICU to home.
