About NexEdge Research Scheme
Founded in February 2025 in Nigeria, the NexEdge Research Scheme is a purpose-driven academic initiative committed to nurturing and recognising exceptional undergraduate talents in Food Science and Technology. Our goal is to create inclusive, impactful opportunities that empower students to develop as critical thinkers, communicators, researchers and future leaders in global food innovation. In partnership with universities, NexEdge supports students at different stages of their undergraduate pursuit. In some institutions, students work on broad, high-impact thematic challenges, conducting research, designing presentation materials, and engaging in rigorous question-and-answer sessions. In others, they focus on research topics assigned by their academic supervisors, ensuring their work aligns with formal curricula and faculty expertise. Whether developing original research proposals, presenting on thematic topics, or defending their findings, students participate in a transparent, faculty-supervised evaluation process. Each year, the most outstanding contributions receive formal recognition and financial awards, helping to remove barriers to visibility and progression in research careers. Beyond recognition, NexEdge provides ongoing mentorship to awardees and promising participants. This mentorship offers guidance on advancing their research, enhancing academic writing, preparing for conferences, and planning career pathways, equipping students with the skills and confidence to thrive as emerging scholars and innovators. By fostering research capacity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and scholarly communication, NexEdge contributes to building a vibrant, equitable research culture in emerging economies. The initiative aligns closely with international standards and global priorities, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), preparing students to engage meaningfully with complex challenges in food systems worldwide.
