About NightSafe
NightSafe provide immediate support and signposting to vulnerable students during YUSU club nights and various student events throughout the year. In the past academic year, NightSafe volunteers have given over 2000 hours of their time––worth £15,400 (National Living Wage). Our volunteers are trained in first aid, active listening, conflict management, river safety, drug and alcohol awareness, rape and domestic violence, effective communication, and working alongside the homelessness. NightSafe volunteers operate in groups of three and patrol York city centre, working with students, venue managers, security staff and the emergency services. Each patrol is led by a Team Leader, working alongside regular volunteers. Teams wear hi-vis uniforms and are equipped with CCTV and a radio walkie-talkie for maximum security.
