The mechanical engineering industry is digitalizing. As a result, many software tools are being developed, either in-house, or in collaboration with research institutions. In our experience, both from academia and industry, we have seen a large quantity of such tools reach a proof of concept (PoC) stage, but then struggle to be used in practice. Eventually, many valuable pieces of software end up being forgotten and finally lost. With the ETH SpinOff nihito, we offer a solution to prevent this from happening: Software tools can be uploaded to our web-based platform at PoC stage. The platform then provides a user interface (GUI) and a programming interface (API), which allows the tool to be used by a variety of user groups. Running the code in the cloud effectively offers the generation of "no-code" solutions to engineers with little software engineering background.
