The Non-Offending Parent or primary caregiver is a 3rd party victim of the accused offender after sexual or physical abuse disclosure. While many crimes committed by a spouse or close family member can be hard on the parent left behind, the disclosure of possible child abuse within the intimate family is even more devastating. Although the non-offending parent did not commit the crime, the devastation that lays in the wake of the accused falls on the non-offending parent’s shoulders. It is the non-offending parent who, in the midst of this trauma, has to be there for all the children and deal with the immense destruction this has caused to every facet of their lives… alone. For the Non-Offending Parent: N.O.P.A. understands the importance of having someone there for you after the disclosure of possible abuse in your family. When suddenly your whole life has fallen apart we want to help you with a plan to put the pieces back together. We understand that you may be in a daze, and at the same time facing critical needs that have to be met. You may be asking: Where do I go from here? How do I make the bills? How can I care for the emotional and physical needs of my children when I am so lost? How do I get a job? How do I even explain this to others so I can reach out for help? …and so much more.
