About NOSHAME Movement

NOSHAME Movement tackles the silent epidemic of male depression, a global crisis affecting over 160 million men worldwide, including 1.4 million in Portugal alone. NOSHAME Movement is a social impact movement that works in two key strategic pillars: Raising Awareness, by fighting the stigma surrounding depression among men. And in Action, by supporting and helping men who are suffering from depression or burnout by providing a Mental Resilience Club for Men who suffer from depression or burnout (or suffered in the past and want to avoid relapses). Through sports, peer learning, community, mental health literacy, and structured resilience exercises, the NOSHAME Movement combats stigma, empowers individuals, and fosters community resilience. We are on a mission to stop the stigma about depression, changing the narrative of the disease, and helping men become stronger, happier and healthier, stigma-free, mentally and emotionally. Recognising the urgency of addressing men's mental health, men often suffer silently due to stigma, resulting in increased suicide risks (1 man dies every 60 seconds due to suicide worldwide). The NOSHAME Movement offers an actionable approach by leveraging the transformative power of sports and peer-sharing with accountability dynamics. Since its inception, the NOSHAME Movement has reached over 600 individuals through targeted talks to corporate companies. The initiative has gained strong Portuguese institutional support. It was notably recognised as a Top 10 finalist out of 93 applications for the RISE for Impact Acceleration program, from Casa do Impacto (a social incubator from Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa).
