About Nurtured Nature

Serving children ages 2-5 in North Portland's Overlook/Arbor Lodge neighborhood, Nurtured Nature is a founder-led preschool offering a play-based approach to early learning. Our attachment-led, community-minded program is rooted in the belief that childhood should be full of muddy hands, big feelings, and even bigger imaginations. We believe children arrive with their own, unique nature and see our role as providing a safe and supportive learning environment, so they feel connected and confident to explore. Through trusting relationships, unhurried play, and time in nature, we nurture each child’s natural tendencies—helping them grow into curious, capable, and compassionate human beings. Our approach emphasizes: -Free Play: Open-ended exploration where children develop creativity, problem-solving skills, and confidence. -Family-Style Meals: Shared tables that build independence, nurture relationships, and create a strong sense of community. -Outdoor Exploration: Nature as our third teacher, offering daily opportunities for wonder, discovery, and connection with the natural world. -Social-Emotional Development: Helping children understand and express their feelings, build empathy, and navigate relationships with kindness. -Mixed-Age Community: Older and younger children learning alongside each other, building friendships and mentorship naturally. At Nurtured Nature, we see children, families, and teachers as co-learners and collaborators. Together we build a community where children are respected, celebrated, and nurtured as capable individuals — ready to grow into confident, compassionate members of their world.
