About NYU Animal Rights Collective

The Animal Welfare Collective at NYU (AWC) is an official undergraduate and graduate student club at New York University. We are a community of students passionate about animal rights and welfare — educating, advocating, inspiring, and providing a space for people who believe that every sentient being deserves a life free from violence. Through different speaker events, collaborations, volunteering, and outreach programs we engage students on different topics regarding animal welfare. We provide guidance on how to live a life free from cruelty (e.g. vegan mentor program) and create a community of people who care and support each other. Some Highlights: -We host a Plant Based Food Festival (2x) where we invite over forty brands and local restaurants and give out food to our guests. We hold live performances for entertainment and fun! A talk from representatives of New Roots, and a documentary screening. Over 500 people attended this event and it was a blast! -Rat Fest, where we celebrate the most targeted species in New York when it comes to violence. We bring live music, face paint, and other fun activities that everyone can participate in. Our goal is to change the view people have on rats and to change this negative image and foster peace and solidarity as a community. -We've hosted a law panel where a group of professors spoke to students about major challenges like climate change, loss of biodiversity. It was a great opportunity for those who are passionate about environmental issues, or law! - Our Lanternfly Festival was where we were in Washington Square Park advocating for lanternflies due to the widespread of misinformation. We had a wonderful time with arts and crafts surrounding these beautiful specimen and fostered compassion and understanding to stop their unjust treatment.
