About Obair Economic Society

Since 1987 the Obair Economic Society has striven to provide the Peace Region of British Columbia with employment services. These employment services are in furtherance of our mission to place the severely employment disadvantaged into productive employment. This is to alleviate their dependency upon government services, family and friends and to foster a culture of systematic independence and self-reliance. To fulfill our mission we have developed training programs for the retention and gaining of employment. These programs focus on three main areas; work habit training, skill development, and upgrading both skills and work habits. These have been delivered in numerous different ways including individualized case management and employment workshops based on the cohort model of learning. As part of our mandate we have always endeavored to coordinate and communicate with other societies or agencies to develop practical and actionable social and employment programs to affect change in dependent people’s employment prospects. Finally the Obair Economic Society aims to promote public awareness within our community of the intrinsic economic potential of people who are temporarily dependent upon government agencies.
