What We Stand For The Ohio River Valley Institute’s mission is to help Appalachia achieve its shared goals—becoming a place with strong communities, a thriving economy, and a healthy environment. Our Vision We believe that Appalachia can become a place where communities thrive by investing in restoration and rebuilding. By moving beyond resource extraction, the region can create a stronger and fairer economy that will set an example for the world. Independent Nonpartisan Research The Ohio River Valley Institute is a think tank focused on northern Appalachia. Our team of experts produces substantive research on the region’s most pressing issues and delivers them with effective communication strategies. We strive to help the Ohio Valley region mark out a path toward lasting job growth, clean energy, and more inclusive civic structures.
