About OI Pomodoro da Industria Nord Italia

OI Pomodoro da Industria del Nord Italia (OI) is the interbranch organization for tomato processing in Northern Italy. OI brings together all tomato producer organizations (POs) and processing companies (PCs) from Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Lombardy, Piedmont, and the province of Bolzano. Our organization was recognized by the EU Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development in 2012 and by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture in 2017. We have a shared governance model. All economic actors are members—from the POs to the PCs. The equal distribution of votes between tomato producers and processors ensures that everyone's voice is heard and that the supply chain stays fair. Advisory members, including specialized research centers and Chambers of Commerce, support this collaboration. Each year, our 2,000 farmers grow tomatoes on 37,000 hectares of land. We produce 2.8 million tonnes of top-notch tomato concentrates, pulps, and purees from their harvest. We account for 25% of the European processed tomatoes production. At OI Pomodoro da Industria del Nord Italia, POs and PCs govern the supply chain to strengthen the competitive position of our production system in the tomato processing industry. With a strong focus on sustainability and the final consumer, we promote coordination and cooperation among all the professionals of the territorial production system to stick to the highest standards in terms of product quality, social responsibility, and sustainability. In 2015, in the EU-funded Life plus PREFER project, we calculated our Product Environmental Footprint. We were the first in Italy to do so. Since then, we have been working to reduce our impact on our ecosystem and empower people to live and work ethically, thanks to the vision of our President, Tiberio Rabboni. In 2022, the EU selected our Tomato SAUCE project to showcase the high sustainability standards of European food.
