About Ombudsman WA
-> Protects People’s Rights: we give people a way to ensure they are heard when they feel they’ve been treated unfairly by government. -> Improves Public Services and Build Trust in Government: we can investigate how government services are delivered and recommends practical improvements. The Ombudsman helps improve service delivery for the benefit of all Western Australians. -> Prevents Harm: through death reviews, investigations and oversight of how organisations respond to allegations of child abuse, we identify opportunities to stop preventable deaths and child abuse and strengthen the safety net around vulnerable people. -> Supports Vulnerable Communities: we focus on people who are often overlooked or disadvantaged, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are considered. We do this through: - We look into complaints about WA government services and local governments. We may be able to help fix a problem you have with their decisions and actions that affect you. - We review child deaths and family and domestic violence fatalities. - We receive notifications about allegations of, and convictions for, child abuse (reportable conduct) from organisations about their employees. We monitor, oversee and review the investigations by organisations and look for opportunities for improvement. - We do major systemic investigations. - We inspect and monitor how agencies exercise certain legislative powers to ensure they are following the law. - We are the WA Charitable Trusts Commission for complaints about charitable trusts. - We are the Energy and Water Ombudsman for complaints about WA electricity, gas and water providers.
