About Onaya

At Onaya we believe in the value of Indigenous knowledge systems, as well as biomedical science. For the last decade we have been conducting non-profit research into ayahuasca and other associated Amazonian plant medicines and practices. As a result of our learning, we offer courses, counselling and community to facilitate holistic wellbeing and connection, with the goal of bridging the gap between traditional healing modalities and modern medicine. We are a multi-disciplinary team of academics, clinicians, and spiritual healers who are committed to working alongside indigenous practitioners to translate knowledge of plant medicines, where possible, into scientific data and terminology. Consideration and respect of Indigenous practitioners of comes foremost in our work. By having an understanding of plant medicines such as ayahuasca with respect to both paradigms, we believe we can learn how these frameworks map on to one another and where they diverge. In doing so, we hope that we might develop a richer understanding and greater recognition of plant medicines and other traditional healing practices.
