About Ontario Brain Institute
The Ontario Brain Institute is a provincially funded, not-for-profit organization that accelerates discovery and innovation with the mission to establish Ontario as a world leader in brain research, commercialization and care. We create seamless connections between research discovery, patient care and commercialization. We do this by connecting researchers, patients, companies, and policy makers to form a learning healthcare system. These connections form the networks that we call Integrated Discovery Programs (IDPs) - research networks that OBI funds and manages. These research programs collect various types of data, including genetic, molecular, imaging and behavioural, which are stored on OBI’s state-of-the-art informatics platform, Brain-CODE. By establishing a common approach to how data are collected, standardized assessments allow data to be shared across the province. This approach is part of a province-wide system where clinical and research data are gathered and kept in a comparable format, allowing for research and discovery within and between disorders. OBI's Integrated Discovery Programs cover the following areas: - Cerebral Palsy - Concussion - Depression - Neurodevelopmental Disorders - Youth Mental Health In terms of commercialization, we work with local and global partners to catalyze the translation of brain research into products that can improve the care of those living with brain disorders. Our programs promote the commercialization of neurotechnology by engaging with industry to attract investments, build partnerships, and to support resource development. Our team approach drives innovation in neurotechnology, ensures tools for brain health reach those who need them most, and improves the delivery of care close to home. Most importantly, it gets results that help all Canadians improve their brain health.
