About Open Door Exchange - Furniture Bank
Founded in 2015, Open Door Exchange (ODE) is Long Island’s first furniture bank, transforming empty houses into homes. We collect gently used furniture and household items from local donors and provide them, at no cost, to individuals and families in need, in crisis, or rebuilding their lives. We believe furniture is more than just “stuff.” A bed means rest, a table means shared meals, a couch means gathering with loved ones. These basics create stability, dignity, and comfort, essentials every person deserves. From veterans and seniors to survivors of domestic violence, refugees, and families overcoming homelessness, we serve our neighbors with compassion and care. Clients select the pieces that best fit their lives, ensuring dignity of choice while turning their space into a true home. Since opening our doors, ODE has furnished thousands of homes across Long Island, diverting quality furniture from landfills and putting it back into the community where it’s needed most. Our work is powered by generous donors, dedicated volunteers, and partners who believe everyone deserves a safe and comfortable place to call home. At Open Door Exchange, we’re not just furnishing homes—we’re building hope.
