As an independent publisher we scour the world for the best stories that need to be heard. We don’t just publish novels—we make dreams reality for readers and authors alike. There are an unfathomable amount of uniquely human narratives that need to be told but are lost due to the bureaucracy of publishing. We exist to bridge that gap, to ensure that the unheard stories of those robbed of their voices are heard and shared from generation to generation. Why Open Kimono? The kimono is a traditional Japanese garment worn by all genders. The expression originated in the feudal Japanese era, it was essentially the practice of proving that no weapons were being concealed within the folds of clothing. The phrase arrived in mainstream America in the 1980’s while an American corporation hosted a Japanese envoy. The phrase essentially means putting all your cards on the table, being 100% transparent. There are a multitude of conflicting etymologies for this phrase which make it controversial: that’s the point. When we misunderstand something, we judge it. Holding hostility towards something we do not fully comprehend is dangerous. This is especially prevalent in the publishing industry. We refuse to judge anyone.
