About Operation Exposure
A Wall Street Journal article entitled “The New Camp Counselor is a Therapist”, presents that middle school aged at-risk youth can benefit from occupation-based camp programs that promote active engagement in an enriched environment. Further research has found sleep-away camps and retreats serve as major forces in a child’s development. Campers reported positive growth in social skills, identity, values, and goal-setting (Merryman & Mezei 2012). Unfortunately, many overnight camps cost over $5,000– leaving no chance for children without financial advantage or in adverse environments where it is needed most. This is where operation exposure steps in! Operation Exposure will sponsor and develop 11 middle school boys on a summer camping trip, and winter ski retreat. We emphasize social and professional development, goal setting, confidence building, and community awareness. "Exposure is everything!"
