About Optimist Comics

Optimist Comics provides publishing, educational services, and content creation for the comic book medium. As a publisher, we believe that stories are the building blocks of any personal worldview and any collective understanding we have of ourselves as a culture. Storytelling is an intrinsic piece of the human puzzle and a mandatory role in any society. Our commitment is to tell stories that amaze, confront, and inspire. As an educational service provider, we leverage visual storytelling to help students achieve academic and artistic outcomes. We offer programs for both in-school and after school settings. Comics in the Classroom is a collaborative and immersive literary curriculum that invites students to deconstruct and visually reimagine the in-class reading. Over the course of an ELA unit, students learn how to adapt the novels and short stories they read in class into their very own comic book story. The result is a fun, unique classroom experience that heightens engagement while also fortifying students' reading comprehension, retention, and literacy skills. For out-of-school-time, our Mini Comic Bootcamp teaches students how to make their own comic book from ideation to publication. Students walk away from the program with published work in hand but more importantly, they walk away with the expertise to continue producing comics for years to come.
