OSA Growth Capital (OSA GC) is launching its first impact fund targeting the water and energy sectors in sectors in West Africa. Achieving current energy and climate change goals will require a fundamental overhaul of the energy system and advances in water management, particularly in Africa, where these sectors require significant investment and expansion. OSA Growth Capital's fund is a so-called "blended finance structure". The Fund includes a junior layer to leverage private capital by enhancing potential return and mitigating downside risk for Senior investors. The Fund seeks to invest in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), primarily from Europe, with high growth potential and robust business models, through equity, quasi-equity and debt. These SMEs must be active in the water and/or energy sectors in West Africa. The simultaneous development of these interrelated sectors will increase project impact and ensure a solid return on investment, driven by growing demand due to population growth, industrialization and urbanization. The mission of these SMEs should focus on delivering measurable impact to local communities, particularly by improving access to potable water and affordable energy. OSA GC envisions impact investing as a key tool in fostering a long-term shift toward more sustainable business practices. The fund finances carefully selected, bankable projects that are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and that aim to achieve a high positive social and/or environmental impact alongside a competitive financial return.
