About Oshmap®

In consultation with land managers we accurately identify and map the location of significant features, potential hazards, safety gear etc., on a government sourced ortho/geo-referenced aerial image background. We can also provide this as a GIS project/system. By using our maps in digital, signboard or paper format, or integrating them into land management software, our clients’ compliance costs become an investment in facilitated land management and the safety of all land users, providing peace of mind and a visible product of real value. An effective rural/farm safety program begins with a hazard identification and safety assessment. In their discussion on Record-keeping and document management, saferfarms.org states: ‘The most basic document every farm needs is a hazard register. Use it to record identified hazards, hazard controls and issues raised through hazard monitoring.’ To assist you in identifying hazards we work through our unique Mark-up Manual© that lists most of the potential hazards likely to be found on your type of property. You will locate these relevant items/structures from the Register, and we will plot the location on an aerial image of your property. The assessment requires your existing knowledge to provide a basis for critical thinking, conversation and reflection. We take the time to ask questions and discuss issues such as why certain items are in their specific locations. We locate all the danger zones and off-limits areas (especially for children), and discuss any changes that could be made. Once recorded on your draft map we will complete the your personalised OSHMAP® and deliver it to you in your requested format. We encourage you to share the map with family, visitors, contractors and staff. The primary benefit of our hazard identification process is that awareness should assist in reducing rural/farm injuries and fatalities. It is also a valuable step towards demonstrating due diligence.
