About Outsideology Limited

Outsideology is a bespoke designer and builder of environmentally responsible buildings, specialising in astronomical observatories. Our story starts in 2010, when Neil Phillipson was asked to recommend an observatory for a client in Scotland. After concluding that nothing available at the time would meet the client's requirements, Neil set about creating a unique design that would go on to become the finest observatory made commercially in the UK. Though it was the first model, its fundamental attributes would become the defining features of our work: high security, free of moisture problems (an issue with almost all competing products), uncompromising materials and build quality and above all, custom-designed for the user. Outsideology was formed in 2015, combining his skills with those of Vanessa, his wife, and Jeremy, his brother. Based in Surrey, UK, Outsideology is known for supplying uncompromising bespoke observatories throughout the UK. In May 2016 we were pleased to announce a landmark development - Outsideology's first large-scale project, designed in collaboration with Above & Beyond Normal Limited (ABNL). Sky Village BG is a unique astronomy village to be constructed in one of the darkest places in Europe later this year, featuring 50 residences, a research observatory and a 5,700sqft visitor centre with restaurant and conference facilities. This one-of-a-kind development brings together professional astrophysicists, amateur astronomers, students and holiday-makers, creating a true community for the discovery and sharing of new astronomical science. Our work on Sky Village BG marked the start of our diversification from pure observatory design, and we're now applying the cutting-edge design and build methods developed for the project to a range of projects including green homes and community developments here in the UK, where we can offer the highest levels of environmental performance coupled with exceptionally low build costs.
