About Outward Bound Singapore
The Outward Bound School of Singapore (OBSS) was established in 1967 by the Minister of the Interior and Defence and Deputy Chairman of the People’s Association, Dr Goh Keng Swee, with the objective of providing support in building a resilient and self-reliant population. The school was moved to the Ministry of Defence in 1971 before being transferred to the People’s Association in 1991 and renamed Outward Bound Singapore (OBS). As of 1 January 2015, OBS became a part of the National Youth Council (NYC), an autonomous agency under the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY). Our work largely caters to youth and community-centric programmes, with a strong emphasis on character and leadership development. As one of the youth developers, we play a critical role in developing ruggedness, cultivating a growth mindset and nurturing a heart of service in Singapore’s youths. Additionally, we also help shape national standards to elevate the development and progression of the Outdoor Adventure Education (OAE) sector.
