Protecting the Ohio River Valley’s Most Vital Wetland Ecosystem Oxbow, Inc. is a nonprofit land trust dedicated to the preservation, protection, and active management of a 1,600-acre floodplain wetland at the confluence of the Great Miami and Ohio Rivers near Lawrenceburg, Indiana. This ecologically rich area—shaped by annual flooding and historic river paths—is one of the most critical migratory bird stopovers in the central Ohio Valley. Our mission is rooted in stewardship. Through land acquisition, habitat restoration, and sustainable land management—including responsible agriculture, controlled burns, and invasive species control—we ensure this unique wetland continues to serve as a haven for hundreds of species. The Oxbow provides food and rest for migratory birds, breeding habitat for wildlife, winter refuge for waterfowl and raptors, and a living classroom for ecological education. We believe conservation and public enjoyment can coexist. The Oxbow supports birding, fishing, hunting, photography, and nature exploration while maintaining its primary purpose: wetland preservation and wildlife conservation. Accessibility for all, including those with limited mobility, is a core value, encouraging community connection and environmental ownership. Oxbow, Inc. is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees and works in collaboration with farmers, landowners, businesses, agencies, and fellow conservation organizations to protect this irreplaceable resource for generations to come.
