About Pa'lante Education Services

Pa'lante Education Services offers instructional training and professional development to educators based upon the science of reading, a vast body of multidisciplinary research on how our brains learn to read. We also provide parents, families, and communities 1:1, small group, or community classes to support reading acquisition. Language, both written and spoken, is at the heart of business, academics, science, politics, and relationships. The United States has one of the lowest literacy rates of the developed world. According to the Nation's Report Card, 34% of fourth graders cannot read, 68% of eighth graders test below grade level in reading, and continuing on into adulthood, 48% of adults are not proficient in reading. These statistics disproportionately affect marginalized students and communities of color. Illiteracy and remedial education cost our nation billions of dollars every year and are significant factors in poverty and crime. Although there are decades of research dedicated to, and explaining how, children learn to read, this research is not reflected or included in teacher preparation programs, professional development, or widely used curricula. Pa'lante Education Services is unique in that we specifically want to uplift and support students and families from marginalized communities. Oftentimes tutors, intervention programs, and reading centers are just not feasible for families with price, availability, a language barrier, or a lack of shared cultural values. At Pa'lante, we understand growing up in a household that English was not the first language spoken at home, where our families and elders relied on younger children for translation services, and where opportunities were not afforded to us because a lack of access. Pa'lante seeks to reduce these barriers. Follow us in this journey working towards education equity and reading access for students, adults, and families.
