About Pain Education and Management
Is PAIN the thief that's stealing your quality of life? Living with persistent pain can be debilitating and a complex condition to treat, yet many people living with pain cannot get access to effective and adequate pain management. Our community-based program and team of clinicians specialising in pain enable you to access a holistic multidisciplinary support network in your local area sooner. How does it all work? Our program focuses on providing a community-based solution for clients living with persistent pain. This treatment approach works with local clinical and educational experts while ensuring our outcomes complement existing institutional (hospital-based) options. The overall process is managed by Pain Education and Management and starts with the medical practice, where a comprehensive history, pain questionnaire, and neurological examination are completed. The practice will schedule a review for you approximately three weeks later. Pain Education and Management will arrange appointments with our medical team (psychologist, physiotherapist and pharmacist). We will collate the results of these assessments and report them to the practice before scheduling a case conference. The case conference allows the GP to review the overall assessment with our clinicians and draft your pain management plan. Finally, at the scheduled review, you will meet with the GP to discuss and finalise your plan agreeing on the best way forward in managing your pain. What next? Well, that's up to you. You can decide to join our program of workshops for the next ten months while enacting your plan. Each professionally facilitated workshop will select a specific element from our pain education and management framework as the topic for the group's discussion; these topics have been carefully chosen to build on your confidence and capability throughout the program, assisting you in optimising active pain self-management and enhancing your quality of life.
