About Painshill Park Trust
Painshill 18th century landscape garden was created between 1738 and 1773, by the Hon. Charles Hamilton. Inspired by Renaissance art and his Grand Tours across Europe, he created a sequence of breath-taking and surprising vistas. The landscape forms a living work of art into which Hamilton placed follies for dramatic effect. Today, a registered charity, Painshill Park Trust was formed to restore and maintain the 18th century landscape garden for visitors across the world to come and enjoy. Painshill was granted Grade I listing and in 1998 the rare Europa Nostra Medal was awarded to Painshill for its exemplary restoration. Over 200,000 visitors a year now visit Painshill.
