About Palácio Anadia - Mangualde

Palácio Anadia dates from the end of the 17th century, being considered an ex-libris of the baroque architecture in Portugal. It is located in the city of Mangualde, district of Viseu, Portugal. Condes de Anadia’s Palace has an area of about 124 acres, and is a complex (classified as a “Property of Public Interest”) comprising a Main House, a farm, a park, its gardens and a forest. Its rebuilding began in the mid-17th century and was carried out by Simão Paes do Amaral. At the beginning of the 19th century, Palácio Anadia was known as Casa of the Paes do Amaral family. With the marriage of Manuel Paes do Amaral de Almeida and Vasconcelos Quifel Barbarino, Lord of the House of Mangualde, with D. Maria Luiza de Sá Pereira de Menezes de Mello Sottomayor, 3rd Countess of Anadia, this house became known as “Palácio Anadia”. On a visit to the Main House, we can find a unique collection of paintings, furniture, sculptures and original costumes, all belonging to the family. Noteworthy are the tile panels that decorate the entire noble area of the house. The gardens of the House are a unique example in the national heritage, for their cultural and natural value, having therefore been integrated into the Route of Portuguese Historic Gardens (https://www.jardinshistoricos.pt/route/view/5). Like the House, the gardens maintain their original spirit. Today, they have around 25 acres of vineyards as their central element, from which unique wines are made, as well.
