We don't bog you down with the cost of expensive spec documents that aren't useful, too big to fully understand, and die shortly after the birth of their first version. What is a spec document you might ask? A spec document is one which describes everything behind what a software is supposed to do. Sometimes they are vague, other times they are very detailed. 99% of the time they collect dust and become useless. These spec documents, which often provide comfort for veterans of the industry because it is what you are "supposed" to do, lead to more cost in the form of revisions. Because of this we start with sketches, then build functional models right from the beginning. All who are involved understand what we are driving towards. Revisions are cheaper. Wasteful revisions go away. Software actually gets implemented this way. Think about the last software project you were involved with. If you haven't ever dealt with the process, you have probably read or heard about how difficult it is. We propose this is because they are doomed before the first line of code is written due to taking the wrong approach. Paragraphs in a spec document aim to unify the project team, get everyone on the same page, however this rarely happens. Interpretation of words is not the same as that of the real thing.
