About Paradeep Phosphates
Paradeep Phosphates Ltd (PPL) is one of India’s leading phosphatic fertilizer companies with a production capacity of 3.0 million metric tonnes (MMT), including 2.6 MMT of phosphates and 0.4 MMT of urea. Its facilities in Paradeep, Odisha (1.8 MMT), and Zuarinagar, Goa (1.2 MMT), manufacture DAP, a wide range of NPK grades (N-10, N-12, N-14, N-19, N-20, N-28), and urea. PPL reaches over 9.5 million farmers through a distribution network of 95,000 retailers across 15 states and also sells industrial chemicals such as gypsum, HFSA, sulphuric acid and ammonia. The company’s core strengths include backward integration in key raw materials (phosphoric acid, sulphuric acid, and ammonia), long-term sourcing contracts, flexible DAP/NPK lines, and a captive port at Paradeep. Its strong brands, "Jai Kisaan" and "Navratna", support its pan-India reach. Since 2022, PPL has expanded its capacity from 1.2 to 3.0 MMT, driven by enhancements at Paradeep and the acquisition of the Goa plant. It has also scaled up phosphoric acid production to 0.5 MMT annually, enhancing self-reliance. Sustainability is integral to PPL's operations, guided by global frameworks like GRI, SASB, and UN-SDGs. It reports annually on ESG and BRSR, covering Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. In 2024, PPL secured an ESG score of 75 in the S&P CSA, ranking amongst top 2% globally in the chemicals sector. Established in 1981 as a joint venture between the Government of India (GoI) and the Republic of Nauru, PPL became a public sector company in 1993. In 2002, GoI divested its stake to Zuari Maroc Phosphates Pvt. Ltd. (ZMPPL), a joint venture between the Dr K. K. Birla founded Zuari Group and Morocco based OCP Group. PPL went public in May 2022 and is now majority-owned (56.08%) by ZMPPL.
