About Pares Balta
Parés Baltà is a family-owned winery located just 50 km south of Barcelona, in the Penedes wine region, with a history dating back to 1790. Today the estates are managed by the 3rd generation of the family, the brothers Joan and Josep Cusiné. WOMEN WINEMAKER · María Elena Jiménez and Marta Casas, the wives of Joan and Josep, have been the winemakers of the family winery for more than 20 years. After meeting their future husbands, they both decided to study oenology and later joined the winery. Their arrival brought new ideas and a real revolution, giving way to experimentation with different grape varieties and winemaking methods. Marta Casas, pharmacist, sommelier and Biodynamic trainer, has recently been chosen Best Winemaker of the Year 2024 by the Master of Wine Tim Atkin. She is currently leading the winemaking team. BIODYNAMIC FARMING & MINIMAL INTERVENTION · Parés Baltà is one of the leading organic-certified wineries in Penedès region. Driven by a deep commitment to nature, the family have always cultivated their vineyards using organic practices certified since 2003 and biodynamic farming certified in 2013 by Demeter. In the cellar, the winemaking team focus on crafting wines that reflect their natural origins. The family work with no sulfites or very low added sulfites and avoid chemical additives during the winemaking process. THE VINEYARDS · Parés Baltà own 5 estates near the Mediterranean Sea, with altitudes that range from 180 to 750 meters above the sea level with very different microclimates. Of these, 80 hectares lie within a protected natural park, surrounded by 600 hectares of forest and rich biodiversity. All the vineyards are hand harvested. OTHER FAMILY PROJECTS Driven by their passion, the family has expanded into other prominent wine-growing regions of Spain. In 2003, they established Gratavinum in the remarkable Priorat region, followed by Dominio Romano in Ribera del Duero in 2005.
