About Partners in Global Change
Many years ago a little girl was born in Cite Soleil, a very poor neighborhood, and now a violent slum, in Port au Prince, Haiti. She was placed in an orphanage and then adopted by a prosperous Belgian family. After 39 years in Belgium, and after the earthquakes in Haiti, she decided to return to Haiti to try to find her biological family and to be of assistance to others. Fortunately, her family was found alive, having survived the 2010 earthquake that killed 350,000 people. Prompted by what she saw, she decided in 2012 to try to help the children of her country. Together with a Haitian she had met on her first trip back, Marcel Jean, who shared her vision and love of the children of Haiti, she founded a model, well staffed, orphanage to be called Tysea. For nine years that orphanage flourished even as conditions in Port au Prince deteriorated, and its children flourished as well. But it is now in crisis.
