Patrick Ayre and Associates Ltd is a social work consultancy business located in Bedford, UK. We specialise in formal review of children's services practice. We have undertaken a dozen or so Serious Case Reviews and have written expert witness reports in some of the most important cases in which local authorities have been sued for negligence by young people formerly in their care. Our lead director, Patrick Ayre, was a social worker and manager of child protection services for 17 years before becoming a lecturer and researcher at the University of Bedfordshire for some 20 years. For many years, he combined his academic work with practice as a Children's Guardian and social work consultant before leaving the University in 2014 to concentrate on his consultancy work. Patrick has a great deal of experience in offering training in child protection, specialising in Neglect; Assessment and Analysis; and Learning Lessons from Serious Case Reviews. He seldom gets time to undertake day long training events nowadays, and tends to concentrate instead on speaking to large groups at ACPC conferences and the like, which are often built around his input. He has been invited to speak at conferences all around the united Kingdom as well as in Australia, South Africa, Hong Kong and Canada. He was joint editor with Michael Preston-Shoot of the recent influential book, Child Protection at the Crossroads. Patrick is supported by a small team of highly qualified and experienced social workers who share his commitment to the development of of best practice in children's social work.
