Penguin Tuition is a group mathematics tuition centre in Camden. We tutor primary and secondary school children aged 5-16 (Years 1-11). We teach mathematics through a unique theme based approach, in a small group environment to make learning enjoyable. We help develop the right mindset, so that children look forward to a challenge and use their inquisitive nature to solve problems without the worry of making a mistake. This in turn builds their confidence in class and improves their academic achievement. Who we are We are a local independent tuition centre, with a passion for mathematics and its applications to every day life. We are a small business, consisting of a team of local tutors, each with many years of experience in tutoring in a one on one and group setting. Thematic learning Thematic learning means that the topics – such as rounding, fractions, decimals - are taught under a specific theme, for example animal kingdom. The advantages of this approach is that it makes learning more fun and approachable, so that students want to learn. It enables the children to associate what they have learnt with real life examples and to see the connections between the various topics. It also enhances cognitive skills such as reading, thinking, memorising and problem solving. The right mindset We believe that mathematics is about the right mindset, that it’s about approaching a problem you want to solve and not being afraid to make a mistake. The more you try, the more you will learn. Just look at Edison. Edison was an inventor, who invented the light bulb. He wasn’t successful the first time, it took 1000 attempts. When they asked him “How did it feel to fail 1000 times?” He replied, “I didn’t fail 1000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1000 steps.”
