About Peninsula Pet Pantry

The Peninsula Pet Pantry is a 501c3 recognized organization that provides temporary pet food, pet supply assistance, and veterinarian cost assistance to pet owners facing financial hardship on the Virginia Peninsula. The Pantry was founded by a group of animal lovers in Yorktown who believe a dedicated organization benefitting the "other" members of the family was desperately needed in the Peninsula area. Through the efforts of the Pantry, the ultimate goal will be to reduce the rapidly increasing rate of animal surrenders to local shelters and humane societies due to financial difficulties experienced by pet owners. Current initiatives: food assistance, flea/tick prevention, vet cost provision, spay/neuter referrals, and animal welfare assistance and referrals. The Peninsula Pet Pantry offers assistance to residents living in Hampton, Newport News, Yorktown, Poquoson, Williamsburg, James City County, and in selected areas of the Middle Peninsula. Applicants may only receive assistance up to six times in a twelve month period. Assistance is limited to four pets per applicant, per distribution. Help with vet costs will be reviewed by the Board of Directors on a case by case basis, and the nature of help is limited to emergencies, life threatening care, or an acute diagnosis. Volunteer opportunities range from the collection or distribution of donated items, fundraising, promoting the pantry at special events and other outreach programs, grant writing, and more.
