About Penn State University Libraries

Mission: The University Libraries inspires intellectual discovery and learning through robust information resources and academic collaborations in teaching and research that connect the Penn State community and citizens of Pennsylvania to the world of knowledge and new ideas. Vision: We are a world-class research library with a global reach, providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for learning, collaboration, and knowledge creation. As partners in research and education, and leaders in delivery and preservation of library collections, we will leverage technology and reward innovation to ensure the University Libraries is a destination of choice. Diversity: We are committed to disrupting racism, hate, and bias whenever and wherever we encounter it and to creating the most inclusive and diverse community that we possibly can: https://libraries.psu.edu/diversity. Locations: We are one University Libraries, geographically dispersed among and supporting the students, faculty, staff, and Pennsylvania community members at 23 physical Penn State locations and also online students and instructors of Penn State World Campus. Our service model includes a "floating collection" serving all locations. The Eberly Family Special Collections Library, in Pattee Library and Paterno Library on Penn State's University Park campus, is home to more than 200,000 printed volumes, more than 25 million archival records and manuscripts, and another million photographs, maps, prints, and audio-visual items. We offer primary source materials for a diverse community of researchers, who range from K-12 and Penn State students, as well as scholars around the world. We collect in a variety of subject disciplines, a sampling of which includes Utopian literature, science fiction, labor organization and representation, local Centre County history, and we are also home to the Penn State University Archives.
