About Percussion Australia
Percussion Australia is the centre of a thriving community of artists, educators, students, supporters, collaborators and fans. We enable, encourage and produce collaborative projects, new compositions, public performances, workshops, classes, festivals, pre-professional training and ensembles, plus more. Percussion Australia is the home to two globally recognised music ensembles, Synergy Percussion and Taikoz, Australia’s leading taiko training facility, the Australian Taiko Academy and Australia’s newest international music festival ‘Boom! International Festival of Percussion’. We will also be introducing new streams over the next five years, including an Afro-Latin School of percussion and a pre-professional Training Academy for percussionists. Synergy is a world of sound with percussion at its heart. The group continues a journey that began 38 years ago, touching audiences with the beauty and expressive diversity of percussion today. Taikoz is Australia’s only professional taiko ensemble. Since 1997, the group has developed a reputation for dramatic performances that couple explosive energy and extreme dynamism with refinement and grace. Taikoz unites tradition with the latest contemporary compositions with ancient practice at its core. Combining the visceral power of Japanese taiko with the ethereal sound of the bamboo shakuhachi, Taikoz is exploring a synthesis of East and West, old and new.
