About Pete's Dragons

Pete’s Dragons are there to hold the hand of anyone in Devon impacted by suicide. Suicide is devastating to family members, friends, emergency service workers and those first on scene. We have a team of suicide bereavement specialists across the region (Barnstaple, Exmouth, Plymouth and Torquay) who provide a bespoke service to each individual which includes listening service, counselling, facilitate peer support groups and a huge range of alternative therapies and events. We operate the Real Time Suicide Surveillance System (RTSSS) across Devon, a contract which in turn facilitates us being able to offer an immediate response to anyone impacted by suicide. We do not have a waiting list, support is immediate and for as long as needed, which is often months but sometimes years. There is no age limit, we support anyone affected by suicide loss including children who've been bereaved on a 121 basis and within a school setting. Alongside our bereavement support, we are passionate about prevention and reducing suicide numbers - our overarching goal is for Pete’s Dragons not to be needed by helping to significantly reduce suicide rates. Our contribution to this reduction is through awareness raising and education. We run a variety of training courses to healthcare professionals, businesses, organisations and individuals, in how to identify the signs that someone is at risk of suicide, how to talk to them and to help them stay safe. We are working hard to deliver training across the region, to as many people as possible.
