Peter Sheehan Studio does: - Artefact Design & Sculpture - Brand Building & Graphic Design - Design Education & Thinking Peter has 25 years experience in design consultancy for global brands, with numerous award winning products on the market, primarily in the consumer electronics category. Following a 4 year stint with Philip Kenny in his consultancy in Limerick, Peter joined Design Partners (DP) in 1992 and was central to its evolution into a world class design consultancy as a designer, creative director and mentor to the design team. His work has been exhibited in MoMA San Francisco; MoMA New York; the Chicago Athenaeum; at the Red Dot & Industrie Forum awards, Germany; and Good Design, Japan. Set up in 2011 Peter Sheehan Studio takes a wide angle view of design, making, craft and art. In doing this Peter is exploring the origins of design and material culture; the essence of the object; mixing digital, machine & handmade methods; experimenting across categories; playing with conventional and new design principles. All while drinking far too much coffee and collecting found objects and designed artefacts - whether his own recently created concept models or prehistoric tools that have been picked up on his travels. In 2011 Peter collaborated on the design of a chair with Cathal Loughnane, supported by Joseph Walsh, The History chair was selected by Wallpaper* magazine for inclusion in the Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition in Milan in 2012. A refined version, including a leather pad, was included in ‘Vernacular’ by the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI) at the London Design Festival in 2013, at the National Craft Gallery in 2014 and as part of the international exhibition ‘Liminal – Irish Design at the Threshold’ as part of the Year of Irish Design 2015. In between teaching and graphic design & brand work Peter is developing a number of sculptural pieces and furniture concepts.
