About Peterborough Community Development Trust

Peterborough Community Development Trust (PDCT) was set up in December 2021 as a Community Benefit Society. The trust has been set up to facilitate community ownership of cultural assets within Peterborough and the surrounding areas that may be at risk of loss or closure. Initially, this will involve the acquisition of Peterborough New Theatre (previously known as Broadway Theatre). A theatre in commercial ownership that PCDT is seeking to take ownership of on behalf of the community will allow PCDT to preserve the theatre for the long-term benefit of the Peterborough community. A community benefit society is run primarily for the benefit of the community rather than just for the members of the society. This means it must have an overarching community purpose beyond its membership. Local theatres and groups have an essential role in the local community. They are the hubs within our communities, bringing people together and providing happy times, fun, laughter, thrill, performance, song, and dance. Local theatres impact local businesses, bringing the area back to life, boosting morale to see the area buzzing, and creating opportunities for local talent. In addition, they can help the young find their voice and confidence and supports individuals with mental health. Funding from local government and capital grants is stretched, and we must work to ensure that our theatres can be self-sustaining. We are looking for support from our local community and for people to become members and businesses to play a part in supporting the cultural assets within the Peterborough community through fundraising and donations.
