About Phoenix Union Foundation for Education
The Phoenix Union Foundation for Education (“Foundation”) supports the Phoenix Union High School District in providing opportunities for students to succeed in college, career, and life. Our mission is to strengthen the community by investing in student success. We do that in two primary ways: (1) providing District graduates with scholarships to pursue post-secondary education; and (2) offering funds for student programs through our ‘Innovation Grants.’ The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the continuous improvement of student achievement within one of the largest high-school districts in the country. The Foundation holds two flagship fundraising events: (1) the Scholarship Dinner, typically held in February or March; and (2) the Scholarship Open Golf Tournament typically held in early May. The Foundation has raised over $950,000 in scholarships to PUHSD students. Last year alone, the Foundation gave out $88,000 in student scholarships. Further, “Invest in the Best” is an initiative in which District employees have given directly toward student scholarships and programs. The Foundation also facilitates “Giving Back Pays Forward” scholarships on behalf of individuals, businesses, community organizations or District staff who wish to establish separate scholarships. Our top sponsorships also establish a separate sponsorship. The Foundation 'Innovation Grants' program has grown to where we have given out almost $15,000 in funding for both District-wide programs and campus-specific programs in the last two years. Programs supported include the Greater Phoenix Music Festival and the Phoenix Union High School Expo, as well as several campus-specific programs. In the future, the Foundation plans to actively engage alumni and to increase its visibility with donors and the Phoenix community at large.
