PHREEEDOM, LLC Consulting and Facilitation is a small Black Woman-owned consultancy manifested into reality in November 2021. Founder, Jannah Bierens’ yearning for freedom to speak truth to power, and relief from oppressive workplace culture led her to follow her heart and life’s purpose to work collectively with people and organizations to get PHREEE. As humans, our liberation and well-being are bound. We are interdependent and if one is not free, no one is (Fannie Lou Hamer). With almost 25 years in public health practice, she leads with love and joy, specializing in cultivating community through group learning and dialogue facilitation, coaching leaders and teams advancing racial justice and health equity, and consulting organizations on their anti-racist/oppression journey. PHREEEDOM, an intentional acronym that stands for Public Health Racial Equity through Exploration and Engagement to Dismantle Oppression for Movement, serves as a blueprint to PHREEEDOM’s approach to equity as a process, not just an outcome. PHREEEDOM’s theory of change is expressed in the words of late Detroit activist, Grace Lee Boggs who said that you must “transform yourself to transform the world.” As an inside-out strategy, Me|We|Us represents change starting at the individual level, to find entry points for growth at the interpersonal level, and thus influencing the institutional level. With a strong belief in relationships as resistance, the mission of PHREEEDOM to “collect, connect and care in community for self, systems and social transformation,” is rooted in creating space for head, heart, and hands- or whole human beings. Committing to honesty, humility, and humanity for healing and hope in every place and space with grace, PHREEEDOM’s four-pronged purpose is to: 1. Deepen relationships 2. Disrupt normative thinking 3. Decolonize and democratize the data 4. Dismantle false narratives and oppressive systems
